Watch out for Hurricane Harvey phishing scams

Hurricane Harvey's destruction has attracted online scammers looking to prey on people who want to make kindhearted donations.
The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team issued a warning Monday that thieves are taking advantage of the disaster by using email and social networks to send out bogus links that promise to let you help victims.

Instead, the links lead to phony websites where cybercriminals try to steal your credit card and personal info. Other cyberthieves have been setting up fake charities where the organizers end up pocketing all the money.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Finale Ratings Hit Series High

Game of Thrones Season 7 Finale Ratings Hit Series High

The numbers are officially in from last night’s Game of Thrones Season 7 finale and the series has hit another milestone record. THR reports that the final episode of the seventh season brought in 16.5 million viewers who watched the episode live. After even more have seen the episode over the next few days On Demand and on HBO GO and HBO NOW, that number will no doubt reach even further heights.
Prior to the finale, the highest-rated episode of the series was Episode 5 of Season 7, “Eastwatch,” with 10.72 million viewers. The season six finale of the series, “The Winds of Winter,” brought in 8.89 million viewers when it aired, meaning the series has grown 54% in just over a year.

Dembele feeling no pressure

Ousmane Dembele insisted he is not feeling under pressure to perform despite joining Barcelona as a club record signing and the second most expensive footballer of all-time.
The 20-year-old winger, signed from Borussia Dortmund for a fee which could rise to €147 million, was presented to over 17 000 fans at the Nou Camp on Monday.
"(I feel) no pressure, no nerves. It's the transfer market going a bit crazy. But I'm here to do my work well on the pitch and help the team," Dembele told reporters.
"I don't feel pressure from these numbers, in fact more than pressure it's a pleasure to be here."
Dembele, who shot into the limelight after one season at Rennes and a €15-million move to Dortmund last summer, has been signed by Barcelona following Neymar's departure to Paris St Germain.
However, the French international does not think he has been headhunted to fill the Brazilian's boots at Camp Nou.
"There's a big difference between Neymar and me. Neymar is one of the best players in the world, I am very young. I’m improving day to day, trying to improve and to grow," said Dembele.
"I'm not here to replace Neymar. They needed a player in this position, they called me and I will give everything for this club. I'm 20, I have a lot to learn and that's why I'm at this big club.
"It's an honour and a pleasure to play in a team with Lionel Messi, I want to learn from him. He's a great player, the best player in the history of football and I'm happy to grow in this team."
Dembele's presentation was delayed by an hour after a paperwork problem with Borussia Dortmund and some fans grew upset because of the delay at a baking stadium.
They chanted for Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu to resign and showed support for former chief Joan Laporta, whistling and waving white handkerchiefs, in a public demonstration of the discontent with the board that exists.

How Walmart is Using Machine Learning AI, IoT and Big Data to Boost Retail Performance

Even though Walmart was founded in 1962, it’s on the cutting edge when it comes to transforming retail operations and customer experience by using machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data. In recent years, its patent applications, position as the second largest online retailer and investment in retail tech and innovation are just a few reasons they are among the retail leaders evolving to take advantage of tech to build their business and provide better service to their customers.
Lauren Desegur, VP of customer experience engineering at WalmartLabs said, “We’re essentially creating a bridge where we are enhancing the shopping experience through machine learning. We want to make sure there is a seamless experience between what customers do online and what they do in our stores.”

September 12 said to be iPhone 8 day

The world will get its first look at the 2017 iPhone models on September 12, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The paper reports that Apple will unveil three new iPhones that day, citing anonymous sources "familiar with the matter." Apple may host the event at the Steve Jobs Theater on its new Apple Park campus, according to the story. The September 12 date was previously reported, and aligns with the traditional early September window Apple has used to announce new iPhones over the past several years.
The possible launch of three new iPhones also lines up with rumors that have been gathering steam for some time. In addition to the expected iPhone 7S and larger 7S Plus -- which would be probably look similar to their 2016 predecessors but include under-the-hood spec upgrades -- it's widely believed that Apple would also launch a new high-end iPhone 8
The so-called iPhone 8 -- the names are all assumptions at this point -- would be a new high-end model rumored to have a large OLED screen covering a nearly bezel-less front face, with an all-new facial recognition feature replacing the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It's expected to be in short supply and carry a price upwards of $1,000 (or roughly converted to £775 for the UK and AU$1,265 for Australia, but would likely be priced even higher).
September 12 or otherwise, the event date and location will be locked in once Apple sends out official invitations, which it generally does only six to 10 days beforehand. Last year, for instance, the company sent invites for a September 7 event on August 29.

Zuckerberg baby No. 2 enters the world

And then there were two -- two daughters, that is -- born to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan. Baby girl August was born this month, according to Zuckerberg's Facebook post Monday.
As they did with their first daughter, Maxima, nicknamed "Max," the couple wrote an open letter to August that they shared with the rest of the world. The letter to Max, posted Dec. 1, 2015, talked about the need to  "advance human potential" and "promote equality." It also announced the pair would donate 99 percent of their Facebook shares to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, initially  focused on "personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities."
Whew.
They say parents learn what not to do for their second baby, which may explain why Monday's post urges August to "make time to go outside and play.
"I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss books so many times you start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. I hope you ride the carousel with Max until you've tamed every color horse. I hope you run as many laps around our living room and yard as you want. And then I hope you take a lot of naps. I hope you're a great sleeper. And I hope even in your dreams you can feel how much we love you."
Zuckerberg earlier this month said he will take two months' paternity leave, splitting it in half. He'll take time off during the baby's first month and again in December. Facebook employees get four months of maternity or paternity leave "because studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, it's good for the entire family."

Season 5 Walking Dead Recap

Season 5 Walking Dead Recap

Season 5 of The Walking Dead shattered premiere records by attracting a whopping 17.3 million viewers and remains the highest-rated season on Rotten Tomatoes (90 percent). With some of the most shocking and plot-propelling moments to date, it’s no surprise. Here are some of the season’s biggest highlights.
  1. Bob’s Cannibalism Encounter
Episode two: “Strangers.” Bob gets bitten by a walker on a supply run. Later, he is captured by the Terminus survivors who, ignorant of his injury, cut off and eat his left leg. Upon discovering he’s dying, the survivors panic much to Bob’s amusement. Bob later dies beside Sasha.
  1. Splitting the Main Group + Eugene’s Reveal
Episode three: “Four Walls and a Roof.” For the first time since season one, Rick‘s group splits up with permanent intentions. Glenn and Maggie join Abraham’s group to escort Eugene to D.C. so that he can stop the virus. In episode five, “Self Help,” Eugene reveals that he never knew the cure. He lied about his past to save himself. Everybody’s hope simply evaporates.
  1. Beth’s Arc
Episode eight: “Coda.” This episode concludes the story of Beth’s forced stay at Grady Memorial Hospital. The group arranges a meeting with Dawn and her officers to reclaim Beth. But, when Dawn demands that they return Noah, Beth stabs her. Dawn instinctively shoots Beth in the head. This abrupt death is one of the most grievous since Andrea’s in The Walking Dead season three. Maggie’s arrival just as Daryl carries Beth from the hospital only deepens the sorrow.
  1. Tyreese’s Sacrifice
Episode nine: “What Happened and What’s Going On.” Just one episode after Beth dies, Tyreese gets bitten while shielding Noah from a walker as they investigate Noah’s hometown. Michonne tries to save him by cutting off his arm, but Tyreese dies en route to medical help. This episode marks Chad Coleman’s departure from the cast of The Walking Dead.
  1. Morgan’s Return
Episode 16: “Conquer.” For the first time in several episodes, Morgan reappears. Around the walking dead, Morgan was originally troubled and pacifistic much like how conflicted Andrea was with the walking dead in season one. But, Morgan has changed. His reappearance is a welcome throwback to previous seasons, but also a teaser for future ones.
  1. Michonne’s Sucker Punch
Episode 15: “Try.” This is possibly the crowning moment in Season 5 of The Walking Dead. To keep Rick from arguing with Alexandria’s leaders, Michonne punches him unconscious from behind. The punch is quick, confident and awesome, just like Michonne.
From deaths of beloved characters to villains for the next season of The Walking Dead that Morgan encounters in the season finale, this epic season surpassed all expectations. These highlights are just a few of the incredible moments which brought this show back to the top of the ratings charts.

Matt Reeves Clarifies ‘Standalone’ Comments on The Batman, Confirms DCEU Placement

Matt Reeves clarifies ‘standalone’ comments on The Batman, confirms DCEU placement

Fans found themselves in a tizzy yesterday following an interview with director Matt Reeves indicating that the upcoming solo Batman movie would not be part of the larger DCEU. Now, however, Reeves has taken to Twitter to clarify his remarks and confirm the film will be part of the larger cinematic universe, just that it won’t have ties to the other films.
“Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe. Batman will be BATMAN… In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman not about the others in the Universe. That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story.”
While it was thought shooting would begin later this year on The Batman, it now looks like cameras won’t roll until 2018. The film has yet to receive a proper green light from the studio, and it is believed Reeves is doing a massive rewrite that could radically alter Ben Affleck’s original vision for the story.
In The Batman, Ben Affleck is expected to face off as the title hero against Joe Manganiello, who would play Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, in the film. Additional appearances by Jeremy Irons as Alfred and J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon are expected to happen as well. However, given the changes to the script since Reeves’ arrival, it remains to be seen who or what will be in the film.
Reeves (CloverfieldDawn of the Planet of the Apes) will direct the film. An official release date for The Batman, written by Affleck and Geoff Johns, hasn’t been set. Affleck will next appear as Batman in Justice League, opening in theaters on November 17. You can view photos from that film in the gallery below.

Real Madrid Star Cristiano Ronaldo Named UEFA Men's Player Of The Year

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has won the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award for the 2016/17 season. The 32-year-old Portuguese international – who last term helped the Spanish team to their second successive UEFA Champions League title and 12th overall in European football's premier club competition – received the award at the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday.
Ronaldo picked up the trophy for the second consecutive season and third time in total, having also received the accolade in 2013/14.
He finished ahead of two other shortlisted candidates, Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi and Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, in a poll of the 80 coaches in the group stage of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, together with 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, representing each of UEFA's member associations.
"I'm so glad to be here, and honoured to win this trophy again," Ronaldo said after receiving the award. "Thank you to my team-mates and congratulations to them too. I'm so blessed – thanks also to the supporters of Real Madrid, and everyone who helped me to achieve this trophy."
Ronaldo, who finished top scorer in last season's UEFA Champions League with 12 goals, including two in the final against Juventus in Cardiff, received 482 points in the poll, with Messi (141 votes) and Buffon (109 votes) finishing second and third respectively.

The UEFA Men's Player of the Year award is based on players' performances during the 2016/17 season in all competitions, both domestic and international, and at club and national team levels.
Funchal-born Ronaldo first came to prominence at Sporting CP before joining Manchester United in 2003, moving on to Madrid in 2009. He has won the UEFA Champions League four times – once with United in 2008, and on three occasions with Madrid, in 20142016 and 2017.
The gifted front-runner has enjoyed a remarkable goalscoring career, finding the net 530 times in 721 matches overall. He has scored 407 goals in 396 appearances for Madrid – including 90 goals in 88 UEFA Champions League outings. His 15 goals in 52 Champions League appearances for United mean that he is the overall top scorer in Champions League history. He has top-scored in the competition, either jointly or outright, a record six times – including for a record five consecutive campaigns.
Ronaldo has also netted 75 times in 143 appearances for Portugal, and was an inspirational figure in the team that won the UEFA EURO 2016 title in France last year.

Ronaldo's appeal against ban rejected

Cristiano Ronaldo's final route of appeal against his five-match ban for pushing a referee after being sent off in the Spanish Super Cup was rejected by Spain's administrative sports court (TAD) on Tuesday.
"TAD has rejected the appeal presented by Real Madrid against the five-match ban," a TAD spokesperson confirmed to AFP.
Ronaldo blasted his treatment by the Spanish football federation as "persecution" after he was controversially shown a second yellow card for diving after coming off the bench to score as Real won the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup 3-1.
The Portugal captain was handed a one-match ban for the 10th red card of his career and a further four-game suspension for pushing referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea in protest.
"Impossible to be immune to this situation, 5 games!!" Ronaldo posted to his 108 million followers on Instagram after his first appeal was dismissed by the federation last week.
"It seems to me exaggerated and ridiculous, this is called persecution!"
Ronaldo has already served two games of his suspension as Madrid completed a 5-1 aggregate win over Barcelona in the Super Cup second leg and as Real opened their La Liga campaign with a 3-0 win at Deportivo la Coruna.
Real will also be without their all-time top scorer for La Liga matches at home to Valencia and Levante and away at Real Sociedad.

Barca sue Neymar for €8.5 million

Barcelona are seeking at least €8.5 million in compensation from Neymar for breach of contract, the club said on Tuesday as the bitter fallout rumbles on from his world record €222 million move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The move comes after Barcelona refused to pay a separate €26 million bonus due to Neymar for signing a five-year contract renewal last year.
"In the lawsuit, the club demands the player return the already paid sum for his contract renewal as he has not completed his contract; €8.5 million in damages; and an additional 10 percent because of delayed payment," Barcelona said in a statement.
Neymar's family hit back on Tuesday in a statement released by the firm representing their interests.
"This news was received with surprise given that the player fully respected the contract valid at the time," said NN Consultoria.
"As for the bonuses owed for the signature of the contract in 2016, stipulated in the contract and not paid by FC Barcelona...(Neymar) has already started formal proceedings to recover the money before the competent court."
Despite being under contract, Barcelona were powerless to stop Neymar's move to PSG earlier this month as the French side met the buyout clause in his contract.
Barca added the demand was lodged against Neymar on August 11 with Barcelona's employment court, eight days after his stunning move to Ligue 1.
The Catalan giants have also passed the claim onto Fifa and the French Football Federation via the Spanish Football Federation to take what they see as "the appropriate legal effects".
Moreover, Barca urged PSG to pay the amount they are seeking if Neymar – who is reported to earn 30 million euros a year after tax for the next five years in Paris – isn't able to meet their demands.

The Joker Origin Movie in the Works at Warner Bros. and DC

The Joker origin movie in the works at Warner Bros. and DC

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC are in the early stages of developing at Joker origin movie, according to Deadline. The site says that The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips will co-write the script with 8 Mile‘s Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, to be produced by Martin Scorsese and Phillips.
The Joker origin movie will be the first film under a new banner that Warner Bros. has yet to name, but which will expand the canon of DC Comics properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the characters.
The Joker has previously been played by Jack Nicholson in Batman, by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, and by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. The site adds that Leto will reprise the character in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn spinoff, Gotham City Sirens. This new film, however, will feature a different actor, possibly younger.
Also of note is the setting. Deadline claims that “the intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.”
While it’s unknown when this Joker origin movie would be released, Phillips and Silver are already writing the script.

Why The Eclipse On Monday May Be A Full Moon For Emergency Rooms On Tuesday

There is an old saying among ER docs to beware of a full moon because of the crazy things that happen in the ER.
But Monday's spectacular eclipse of the sun may provide a different kind of show--one that ER doctors could potentially face Tuesday, due to people looking directly at the eclipse or from wearing improper eye protection.
A number of emergency physicians believe that this rare natural wonder could lead to an uptick in emergency visits in certain locales across the country where people may be lured by false sense of security that they can safely watch the eclipse without proper eye protection, defined as when the moon completely covers the sun. Any eye damage would likely manifest 12 hours later, not at the time of viewAccording to officials at NASA, for persons who are situated in what is known as the path of “totality,” --when the moon completely blocks the sun’s face and reveals its corona, --it will be safe to directly view the eclipse without eye protection. But the majority of people in the U.S. are not in that path, and those who choose to peer at the eclipse for even a few seconds without certified protective eyewear, face the potential for potentially permanent blindness.
A recent JAMA Opthalmology editorial reinforces the cautions that people should take who reside in the path of totality and elsewhere, and discredits the misconception "that an eclipse allows safe viewing of the sun", without the use of proper eye protection.
Sun rays escaping when the moon completely covers the sun can result in two distinct types of injury: direct thermal injury via near infrared rays that are not visible to the naked eye, and photochemical toxicity from visible rays that result in reactive oxygen species and free radicals that can destroy retinal tissue vital for central vision.
The risk for developing retinal injury and subsequent blindness  ultimately depends upon the duration and angle of exposure to the sun’s rays. Since there are no pain receptors in the retina as there are on the skin, there is no way to known initially if you may have injured retinal tissue. While there may be some initial flashes of light, it’s generally about 12 hours later when visual complaints develop, according to most eye experts.
It’s the central part of the retina, an area known as the fovea within the macula, that is most at risk in the setting of directly viewing the eclipse without proper protection. Densely packed with specialized visual cells known as cones, the fovea is responsible for sharp central vision, important for detail when reading and driving.ing.

A Presidency source on Monday disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will work from his official residence till renovation work is completed in his office.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said that the President has actually resumed work at home.
Buhari, who had been in the United Kingdom since May 7th on medical ground, returned to the country on Saturday. On Saturday, Buhari had met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and security chiefs at his official residence.

On what his resumption will do to Nigerians, he said, “It means the President they voted into office, who has been serving them and who was indisposed for some time and who came back on Saturday, is ready to continue with the work he has been doing.”
Asked to speak on Nigerians criticising that the President’s broadcast message was not explicit enough, Adesina said, “That broadcast was just one step of many steps that are going to be taken in the days and weeks and months ahead. So you can’t expect that everything will be said in one day.”
A statement he later released reads: “In line with constitutional provision, President Muhammadu Buhari has written the National Assembly, notifying the legislature of his return to office, after returning from medical vacation in London.“President Buhari had returned to the country on Saturday, August 19, 2017, and in a letter dated August 21, 2017, he told the Senate as well as the House of Representatives, that he was resuming office.

“President Buhari had left for London on May 7, 2017, and handed the reins of government to the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who functioned as the Acting President,” it stated.

Jay-Z Dedicates "Numb/Encore" Performance to Chester Bennington

Jay-Z paid tribute to Chester Bennington at the U.K.'s Virgin V Festival Sunday night.
It was the first time the 47-year-old rapper had publicly mentioned the Linkin Park singer since Bennington committed suicide on July 20. "Can you guys light it up tonight for Chester?" Jay-Z asked fans at Hylands Park, where he rapped songs from 4:44 for the first time. "Linkin Park, one time—tonight. Please make some noise so he can hear you all the way in heaven tonight!"
After the performance ended, Jay-Z shouted, "Peace and love!"
Jay-Z's history with Bennington goes way back, as the hip-hop artist teamed up with the nu metal band for Collision Course, a six-song EP released in 2004. It debuted at No. 1 and went double platinum, and "Numb/Encore" won Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 2006 Grammys.
In the wake of Bennington's death, Linkin Park canceled its tour so the group can grieve.
"Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing. We're trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place. You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human," Bennington's bandmates Rob BourdonBrad DelsonDave FarrellJoe Hahn and Mike Shinoda wrote on Facebook in July. "You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve."
"Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don't know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you," Bourdon, Delson, Farrell, Hahn and Shinoda added. "Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much."

Ramos asks for leniency from refs

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes English referees are more lenient than their Spanish counterparts and has asked La Liga match officials to take a leaf out of the Premier League book after being sent off in Sunday's 3-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna.
The captain earned a second booking in injury time for elbowing Deportivo's Borja Valle while challenging for an aerial ball, adding to the yellow card he received in the second half for slapping Fabian Schar in an off-the-ball scuffle.
"In some areas we need to look more at English football and let the players play on more, I like their system better. In Europe referees are more tolerant," Ramos, who received the 23rd red card of his Real Madrid career, told reporters.
"I don't agree with the (second) yellow card, it was harsh, but I respect the opinion of the referee. I have no intention of hurting him, I just supported myself, but you learn from everything."
Explaining the first incident with Schar, which occurred when Deportivo's Zakaria Bakkali player was injured on the floor, Ramos added: "We didn't kick the ball out because they didn't do it (earlier in the game).
"They ran after me, Schar headbutted me and all I did was push him out the way without trying to hurt him."
Ramos is Real's most sent off player, with former defender Fernando Hierro trailing way behind on 12 red cards.
Out of Ramos's 23 red cards, 18 have come in the La Liga, three were shown in the Champions League and two in the King's Cup. The centre back, however, has never been dismissed in 143 games for Spain.
Five players were sent off in eight Liga games over the weekend, compared to two in nine Premier League games.

Arrow Season 6 Adds Kirk Acevedo as Villain Richard Dragon

Arrow Season 6 adds Kirk Acevedo as villain Richard Dragon

Deadline has revealed that Arrow has found another villain to take on the Emerald Archer by adding Kirk Acevedo (KingdomLaw & Order: SVU) as Ricardo Diaz aka Richard Dragon. He joins Lost star Michael Emerson as a new addition to the series.
A hardened ex-con recently released from prison for crimes he didn’t commit, Ricardo Diaz is bent on taking over Star City’s criminal underworld. A master in hand to hand combat, honed by years of life on the street, Diaz has yet to meet a foe he can’t take down.
Originally in the pages of DC Comics, Richard Dragon was more of a heroic character, lending his martial arts abilities to train other DC heroes like The Question, Huntress, and more. During DC’s New 52 however the character was reworked to become a villain for Green Arrow.
Arrow stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, John Barrowman as Malcom Merlyn, with Paul Blackthorne as Detective Lance. The series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter.
Based on the DC characters, the series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Wendy Mericle and Sarah Schechter. Arrow is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
Arrow, which formerly aired Wednesday nights at 8:00pm ET/PT on The CW, will move to Thursday nights at 9:00pm ET/PT when season six premieres October 12.
